Medical treatment of acne
The medical treatment of acne is based mainly on the acne stage that the patient is suffering from. As a rule of thumb the earlier the stage of acne the easier the treatment is. If the patient leave the acne to develop then it will be harder to treat, it will also take a long time of treatment and it would be more likely to develop scars.
The first stage of the acne does not include inflammation so it could be treated at home through cleaning the face two to three times daily with warm water and very mild soap. Do not use hot water or strong soap as these may help in inducing the inflammation. Using a good scrub should be of great benefits because it will remove the dead cells from your skin and decrease the incidence of the plug formation which is the core of the acne.
The treatment of the second stage does not differ a lot from the first stage because the case is nearly the same but there are some inflamed black heads in the face. This case should be also treated with warm water and soap then dried well with a disposable towel then the patient should apply a topical anti microbial or antibacterial lotion to prevent any further inflammation. If the inflammation proceeded further then you may need to take oral antibiotic to help in combating this inflammation and restore the normal look of your face. Soothing lotions could be used in this stage to reduce the itching feeling that may help in spreading the inflammation to other places.
The fourth stage of treatment should be carried out by a dermatologist. Although most people can do it at home but performing these steps under aseptic conditions may result in severe complications. The first step is the usage of the acne surgery. It is not a complete surgery and it does not need anesthesia in most of the cases, the dermatologist will tend to empty the inflamed lesion manually in a professional way leaving the rest of the work to be done through the oral medications to restore the previous condition of the face.
If the case is more stubborn then a mild corticosteroid may be inject in the lesion itself to help reducing the inflammation. In some cases the doctor my prescribe retinoid as an acne oral medication or oral contraceptive pills for women who are suffering from severe acne formation as the oral contraceptive pills will help controlling the fluctuation of the hormones inside the body of the female.
